Crisper Sound, Wider Reach from NorthSound 1380 (KRKO-AM)
Coming Soon: Crisper Sound, Wider Reach from NorthSound 1380 (KRKO-AM)!
On May 30, 2008, the Federal Communications Commission issued the construction permit necessary to allow KRKO to increase power to 50,000 watts! Construction should be complete in September, and signal testing will begin this fall. Check back for more updates as construction gets underway!
We’ll have an opportunity to serve the entire Northern Puget Sound region as no radio station has done before:
- Virtually all of the populated areas of Snohomish County and many areas further north and west will be able to tune in clear reception of 50,000-watt NorthSound 1380 programming.
- Listeners in buildings and homes will have improved reception in Snohomish County.
- We will be able to convert to High Definition Radio, or HD Radio. This means much better, richer sound if you have a new digital receiver, but you can still get reception as always on an older set.
- Wider-reaching coverage will enable NorthSound 1380 to serve a vital function in the case of emergencies or school closures. For this reason, NorthSound emergency service providers, fire departments, police departments and school districts are eager for the new antenna to go into service.
