Progressive talk loses more ground
1230 WTPG Columbus (OH)
1230 Air Amercia is no longer. Liberal listeners in central Ohio will lose their only radio voice next month when WTPG (1230 AM) drops its format of “progressive talk” and makes a hard right turn.
The station will change its call letters to WYTS; the new format will begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 9. WYTS will be promoted as “The Talk Station in Central Ohio,” said Bruce Collins, program director of Clear Channel Columbus stations WTPG and WTVN (610 AM). . .

1270 WHLD Niagara Falls (NY)
With progressive talk gone from WHLD (1270 Niagara Falls), the Buffalo-market AM signal has flipped to black gospel. “Word 1270” is a sublet of sorts, with Niagara Independent Media continuing to LMA the station from Citadel, then leasing the airtime in turn to the black gospel programmers from Excel Media who’d been running the format on daytimer WBBF (1120 Buffalo), which is simulcasting with WHLD for now.
