Radio Clube Portugues, Avanca, on 783 kHz, is expected to be on the air very soon, possibly mid / end October.  This site was made ready back in 2007, and comprises a 100 kW, DRM compatible, THALES tx and a Spanish made 60 m folded monopole.  According to the stationn, the continued break downs of the “twin brother” tx used on 1035 kHz (Belmonte, near Lisbon), lead to an agreement with the manufacturer whereby it will be their own pepole who’ll be activating the Avanca unit, which will take place after the THOMSON team checks the Belmonte site. It is almost obvious that MCR – the group owning RCP as well as other [VHF-FM only] stns like Radio Comercial -  may not feel that happy with the quality of those Thales (now Thomson) txs which, nevertheless, are simply not expected to be run at full power either; I was told the power level will almost surely be just a bit above the level of the active, albeit irregular, unit for 1035 kHz, i.e. something in the 30 kW range in order to step down the electricity bill.

Guangxi People’s Radio och China Radio International have officially launched a new radio service on October 23rd in Nanning, China. The new service is called Guanxi Beibu Bay Radio, “The Voice of Guangxi Beibu Gulf”. The service is transmitted via 15 FM stations and two SW stations in southern China in province of Guangxi. The broadcasts will be at 2300-1600 UTC, in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Thai and English. The shortwave frequencies are 5050 kHz and 9820 kHz. The main English programme “The Hot Pot Show” is broadcast at 0800-1000 UTC.  The website for the Beibu Bay radio is at http://www.bbrmedia.com/.

Rádio Cultura do Pará, Brazil has inaugurated a new transmitter on 5045 kHz after 11 silent years, on the 6th of Ocober. The station has, however, changed its name from Rádio Cultura do Pará to Rádio Cultura Ondas Tropicais. Radio Cultura OT uses two transmitters: the power of the principal transmitter is 10 kw, and the reserve transmitter 1 kw.  In the first weeks, the transmitter power will be increased gradually. When the maximum power is reached, the transmitter will be able to reach all 143 municipalities in the state of Pará, and even other countries in South America and other continents such as Europe. The transmitter and antennas are located in Marituba, and the studio is located in Belem.

AFN Power Network has new frequency for it’s Garmisch -transmitter. The 1485 kHz is used with low power. There is also a transmitter in Hohenfels on the same frequency.

Radio Symban operates 24 hours a day,  1000 watts (probably less)  of power, omni directional, from Peats Ridge, near Gosford NSW, Australia.

A UK-based station has moved to 1395 kHz at weekends. WNKR, a pirate station that has been operating for 22 years, has moved to 1395 from 1476 kHz, apparently to avoid interference from a Spanish station, but is now suffering interference in the evenings from Trans World Radio operating from Albania with high power. The station apparently also has a shortwave transmitter on 6311 kHz.

Catholic radio station KYES (K-Yes) has begun broadcasting in Minnesota, the United States. Programming consists mostly of Catholic talk radio, including national programs by Relevant Radio. KYES operates on 1180 kHz on the AM band with a power of 50 kilowatts daytime, 5 kW nighttime and 8 kW during the so-called “critical hours”. KYES began regular broadcasts in August 2009, but according to the station’s Facebook page, the first test transmission took place already on July 10, 2009. The mailing address of the station is P.O. Box 547, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379, USA. Program director is David Rydberg.
