Norway’s closing two MW Stations

As per a press release from Norkring (in Norwegian only), the Vigra transmitter on 630 kHz will close on June 30th, 2011, while the Røst transmitter on 675 kHz will be left alive until December 31st, 2012 after only 13 years of service. This will leave Ingøy 153 as the only remaining AM transmitter on Norwegian mainland. Norkring’s sole MW station left will be the 1 kW NRK relay at Longyearbyen, Svalbard (1485 kHz). I won’t be surprised if its days are numbered too.

ESPN 1250 Pittsburgh to go Radio Disney

Pittsburgh’s all-sports ESPN 1250 is to go Radio Disney in 3 months. Until then, the station will basically clear the ESPN Radio network lineup. Local programming was largely canceled on September 25th. The station will drop ESPN Radio on January 1, 2011; at that time, ABC will stop leasing WWCS on 540 AM and move Radio Disney programming to WEAE 1250.

XEPE – San Diego 1700 AM changed to ESPN station?

It has been rumoured that XEPE 1700 AM will change it’s current talk format (“The Talk of San Diego”) to all-sports (=ESPN). In fact on Radiotime.com pages it’s already called “ESPN Radio 1700″. The station has website at http://www.sandiego1700.com/.

Sports Radio 1290 launched as a 24-hour sports station on Monday, Sept. 27 at 10:57 a.m. Sports Radio 1290 will be a mix of syndicated programs and local content such as Winnipeg Goldeyes games and Wesmen basketball.

Radyo Budyong (DYBQ-AM 981 kHz Iloilo City, Philippines, is an AM station owned and operated by Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation in the Philippines. DYBQ-AM studio is located at Datu Puti Subdivision, Brgy. Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo City. DYBQ went off the air second quarter of 2006 due to financial problems. However, on February 21, 2010, DYBQ went back on the air.

Radio Jornal A Critica reactivated on 60 MB

The Brazilian station Radio Jornal A Critica, Manaus, has reactivated 5055kHz (5054.96kHz). “A Critica FM” relay heard this morning (AUG 03,
0323-0530UTC) with a nice signal here in the middle of Europe.

Galei Zahal 1287 kHz has been closed and replaced by Yavne on 945 kHz with 50 kW, which operated earlier on 954 kHz carrying Kol Israel B network.

Russian AM update

Radio Grad Petrov, Sankt-Peterburg has stopped operation on 1323 kHz. Now only on 73.1 FM and on Internet.
Khristiyanskiy Tserkovno-Obshchestvenniy Kanal – Radio Sofiya in Moscow has stopped operation on 1116 kHz.
Radio Mayak, Surgut with 1000 kW is active on 594 kHz.
Radio Rossii, Grozny, Chechen Republic, has started operation on 1287 kHz with 50 kW, while the previous 50 kilowatter YU-FM (Radio Yunost) from Yazykovo, has been closed.
Radio Rossii, Orenburg with 50 kw on 1053 kHz is reported off the air.

Voice of Shangri-La

Yunnan PBS has many years been operating it’s ‘Foreign Service’ on 6035 kHz. In October 2007 the station call changed to “Voice of Shangri-La”. The station currently beams out two broadcasts in Vietnamese and Chinese languages with transmitting power of 50 kW. Two antennas have effective coverage of Vietnam, Laos, Burma and Thailand. Signals also reach West Asia, Asia Pacific, Europe and America. The station broadcasts five hours a day. The station’s website is at http://www.ynradio.net/guoji/.

Yunnan PBS Minority Language Service

On the 1st of May 2010 this special station of Yunnan PBS moved from 6937 kHz to 7210 kHz. The station has it’s home page at: http://www.ynradio.com/minzu/. The medium frequency 1242 kHz, formerly used by the Minority Service, is now occupied by Yunnan PBS Rural Radio, home page at http://www.ynradio.com/nongcun/.
